Why a Nutrition Consultation

 

While nutrition and diet advice is now offered from many sources, including books, magazines, TV and the Internet, it can be confusing and conflicting. We are all individuals, with unique diets, health histories, lifestyles and environmental experiences, all of which affect our health. My skill is in evaluating your individual needs and identifying a personalized nutrition program for you, one that will allow you to achieve your health goals. A program that is evidence based, safe and effective. You need to bear in mind that I can’t make the changes for you, what I can do is coach you though WHY (for motivation) and HOW to implement the changes. I’ll inspire you to try lots of new, tasty and delicious foods, which based on previous clients’ feedback, you will love!

 

Your Initial Consultation

The initial consultation is 60 minutes. During this time I will be gathering information to allow me to evaluate your individual needs. By the end of the session I will outline the nutritional approach I am recommending as well as any lifestyle changes. I will write up a summary of this along with helpful handouts on how to achieve it, e.g. meal ideas, recipe lists, where to source new foods, breathing and relaxation techniques and forward this to you by email and/or give you handouts after the session. I do recommend laboratory tests for they can be helpful in revealing functional vitamin and mineral levels, or look in more detail at how body systems are functioning such as stress response or our vital digestive system (it’s more a case of you are what you digest and absorb than simply what you eat!).

 

Your Initial Consultation

 

To help me in the evaluation I need to know as much about your diet, health history, family history, lifestyle, use of medications, use of supplements and symptoms. I can also send out a questionnaire in advance, which you can complete and send back to me before the consultation. I know it can seem like a lot of information, if it is overwhelming we can complete this in the consultation. I will also ask you to sign a consent form.

 

Follow up consultations

I recommend a follow up to assess progress. Typically it should be in four weeks, but it will depend on your needs. Depending on the individual we may need to implement further changes or put you onto a maintenance program. Further follow-ups may be required depending on the individual.

 

Telephone and Email Support

 

If you need me to clarify anything from the consultation or have any other queries, I am able to provide it over email or telephone. Any further or additional questions or support is chargeable on a pro rata rate.

 

Supplements

My preferred approach is to improve your health with diet alone; but supplementation of appropriate vitamins, minerals, probiotics, essential fatty acids, amino acids and other nutrients can be extremely useful to support dietary change and achieve your goals more quickly.

 

Laboratory Tests

If I feel lab test are beneficial then I will discuss these with you. I often recommend tests for essential fatty acids, mineral and key vitamin levels via Biolab in Weymouth Street, W1. In addition, I sometimes recommend tests to help identify nutritional imbalances in digestive, metabolic, hormone and stress response, which require stool, urine or saliva, or blood spot samples, which you collect at home.
