Created in 2003 by celebrity stylist Michael Charalambous and entrepreneur Matthew Gerber, Nyumba House of Hair and Beauty is a salon like no other.
Exotic and luxurious, our 4,500 sq ft salon is located in a converted bank in the heart of London’s exclusive Mayfair. Our team of top stylists and beauty therapists offers an exceptional range of hair, beauty and grooming services to our discerning international clientele. From deep cleanse facials that will leave you glowing to a natural health consultancy to refresh and revitalise inside and out, our experts will pamper you to perfection.
Widely acclaimed as one of London’s most well-appointed salons, Nyumba is a regular fixture in the fashion and beauty pages of the world’s media.
Filled with flowers, our lifestyle salon has been harmoniously balanced by Feng Shui consultants to create a serene ambience that lifts the spirits. The striking African décor was inspired by Michael’s childhood in Tanzania. Nyumba means ‘home’ in Swahili, and we aim to create a welcoming environment where guests can relax and indulge all their senses. With its own entrance, The Diamond Vault is a well-kept secret among VIPs, from rock stars to royalty. The ultimate beauty escape, with the benefit of absolute privacy. Our premises are non-smoking, but clients are welcome to bring their children and even their pets.
In keeping with our environmentally friendly ethos, at Nyumba we use Aveda hair products, made from pure flower and plant essences. Including others such as Kerastase, L’Oreal, Wella, Bumble & Bumble, Pureology and Leonor Greyl.
Nyumba works for charity
At Nyumba, our holistic approach to health and beauty extends to our philosophy of life. That’s why we have pledged to donate a percentage of profits to a charity for underprivileged children in Africa.
Nyumba also supports Barnardo’s charity for Children. For more about Barnardo’s visitwww.barnardos.org.uk.
ABOUT Michael Charalambous
Michael was born and raised on a tobacco plantation in Tanzania, Africa. Growing up in this holistic environment, far from anything Westerners would call luxury, Michael was inspired by the natural beauty, colourful clothes, creative body painting, rhythmic dancing, unbelievable hairstyles and wild events all around him.
Dubbed ‘the Armani of the crimperati’, Michael has been featured in high profile fashion and beauty editorials around the world and travels to all corners of the globe to style the hair of his celebrity clients. At Nyumba, which means ‘home’ in Swahili, he welcomes you to create stunning hairstyles, enjoy a full range of authentic beauty services, and explore exciting new African fashions.
Book a consultation with Michael (£65) and he will refer you to the stylist who is just right for your style and budget. All the staff at Nyumba are trained by Michael and know all his tricks of the trade. If you can’t make it to Nyumba, you can always bring Michael to your home.
‘You don’t need to be rich or famous to come to my salon, just because this is a place they all hang out’, Michael says. ‘I will definitely make you feel comfortable, and more famous and beautiful than anyone you know.’ He believes Nyumba is a salon designed to make everyone feel special, no matter how young or old. ‘What do I love most about my salon? That mothers and daughters, grandmothers and grand-daughters all come to me. We’re all family here.’
